Laser Eye Surgery: Man, 30, halves his waistline because he could no longer hide behind his specs

• Michael McCarthy has gone from a 60 inch to a 34 inch waist.
• Before surgery his prescription was -13 in one eye and -12.75 in the other.
• Without his bottle-thick glasses, all he could see was 'blobs in a room'.
• He avoided sport for fear he would break his glasses and 'hid behind them'
• But since undergoing the procedure last year Michael has managed to ramp up his weight loss efforts and has been left transformed.

  For most people, the main advantage of laser eye surgery is improved sight, but one patient has experienced an unexpected side effect.
  
  Michael McCarthy, 30, has lost seven stone - and 34 inches from his waist - after the procedure meant he was able to take part in sports again.
