The Williams-Deschamps Eye Institute has started offering the latest
FDA-approved technology for custom cataract surgery.
The LensX
Femtosecond Laser allows surgeons to customize procedures using a
patient's unique characteristics, which will optimize post-operative
vision
Cataract patients typically undergo surgery to remove the
cloudy lens from inside the eye and replace it with a clear artificial
lens implant called an intraocular lens.
Drs. Ann and Douglas Williams and Dr. Eldi Deschamps can use the new laser equipment for the surgery.
The
laser technique pulses in a femtosecond, which is one quadrillionth of a
second. It also allows for the correction of low to moderate amounts of
astigmatism with the accuracy of a computer-controlled laser.
It
also provides greater surgical precision, eliminates the need for blades
and needles and allows surgeons to customize a treatment plan.
